I would like to send flowers to all the editors that worked to take the incredible story/world of the Empyrean from Yarros’s head and elevate tf out of her writing. Fourth Wing and Iron Flame were so rough to read from a writing standpoint, unbearable at times. This was SO much better. I love that we’re transitioning from an easy entry fantasy to greater world building and higher fantasy. This story deserves it. Thank you, Rebecca for obviously allowing others to touch your baby this time. It was definitely worth it.
The only reason I’m doing 4 stars instead of 5 is because the problems and questions we had at the beginning of the book aren’t really any closer to being resolved or answered. If anything we have more, which puts a lot of pressure on the last two books. Also she could chill on always ending with a cliffhanger. You’re allowed to have some resolution without opening 20 new doors.

What a beautiful continuation of all of our favorite spicy dragon world!
My heart has soared, I have gasped, giggled and kicked my feet, and shed tears… all multiple times. I loved fourth wing, enjoyed Iron Flame (while also being frustrated like many by the editing and pacing). This book! The pacing was SOOO much better! PAPA SORRINGAILS RESEARCH!!!! New locations! A few questions answered but SO MANY new questions added! Plus all of the wonderful 🌶️🥵🔥 we love to see from Vi and Xaddy!

3.5 Stars - Reserving my final star rating for after I have a chance to think about this more.
This book is for sure a building block in the series. She’s opened up the world. It wasn’t done perfectly, but it was way more interesting world building than in the previous two books.
The most frustrating part of this book is that we pretty much only have more questions. Not enough resolution and now there are 7 other plot points that will need to be wrapped up.
I think the value of this installment will entirely depend on how the next two books shape the rest of the story. Was it actually needed or is it a filler book? Does this series need to be 5 books?
I’m here for it, don’t get me wrong. But I’m a little underwhelmed at the moment.
