Time Travelers Wife meets Post WWII England meets 1700 Scotland.
Claire Randall is a complex woman who experienced the trauma's of WWII as a nurse caring for soldiers. Now that the war is over Claire and her husband Frank are reunited and attempting to reconnect in picturesque Scotland. As Frank is researching his familial lineage Claire is exploring the quaint countryside when she comes across a stone circle. Upon laying a hand on one of the stones she is thrust back in time into a 1700 Scottish rebellion. Claire is forced to keep her history a secret and attempt to fit in while always scheming to get back to the stone circle and therefore Frank.
This is a masterful historical romance combining the fantastical element of time travel. You fall in love with Claire's quick wit and hope for her to get back to Frank. But as the story progresses she surprises herself with her desire for adventure, care for those from a different time, and eventually romance for one, Jamie Fraser, who has come to her rescue on multiple accounts.
This was such an interesting take on forced proximity and fake marriage and I ate it all up. The best part is I don't have to wait for Claire's next adventure!
