A perfect duology. The editing in this was incredible. I love that the entire story was expertly fit into these two books. No words or plot lines were unnecessary. Was it a little bit predictable? Yes. Was it still so enjoyable in how it played out? Definitely.

I think my only qualm with the book was that I didn’t realize until after that the main characters were like 18 and 20. In my mind they were about 24 and 28, because their actions and maturity seemed greater than recent teens. So just read it like that’s the case, because it feel right anyway haha. I also typically hate miscommunication tropes, but this one actually made sense due to their backgrounds of excessive lies. Even if/when truths were told, they couldn’t be trusted.

The story was excellent though, and the magic system was fun. We love a witch in this home.

This was a GREAT read! So much so that I immediately started the second book. Absolutely beautiful, COMPLETED, duology! So this review is kind of for both books together.

This author knows how to write tension and yearning. And these books truly deliver on the enemies to lovers trope we all know and love.

Rune is a complex character—especially as her experiences in the book change her, for better or for worse. I love that she wasn’t always the perfect hero, always ready to go to war. I love that the author let the extreme circumstances and traumatic events that she lives through impact her choices.

Gideon…my man. He’s one of the good ones! Misguided, yes. Capable of change? Definitely. A gentleman to his core? Absolutely.

My only complaint is that I wish the characters were older. But honestly their age doesn’t impact the story at all so in my head they were always mid-late 20s, and that was just fine. :)

I wholeheartedly recommend this series!
